Every year at the National Bleeding Disorders Foundation’s (NBDF) annual Bleeding Disorders Conference, NBDF presents Awards of Excellence to those who have made significant contributions to the inheritable blood and bleeding disorders community. At their recent gathering, NYCHC’s Executive Director, Jeremy Griffin, was honored with the Ziggy Douglas Award for Innovation in Youth Programming!

Jeremy is the Executive Director of the New York City Hemophilia Chapter. Jeremy’s dedication to building engaged patient communities has made a lasting impact, especially through his work in co-developing the TORCH (Teen Opportunities and Resources for Community Health) Teen Retreat. Each year, he helps bring teens together at the Pocono Environmental Education Center (PEEC) in Dingmans Ferry, PA, for an unforgettable weekend of adventure—hiking, ropes courses, team building, leadership training, canoeing, campfires (with plenty of s’mores!), and more.
But beyond the fun, Jeremy ensures the retreat is a space where teens can grow—fostering independence, self-advocacy, support, and accountability.

What makes his leadership truly special is his commitment to making teens active partners in the planning process. By involving them every step of the way, he empowers them to take ownership of the experience, strengthening their confidence and shaping future leaders.

Congratulations, Jeremy, and thank you for all you do for our community!
